From The Inside Looking Out

Billy, United Kingdom

This was my first piece of artwork I did expressing my battles with OCD. I see the room as being trapped and gazing out of a window where life still carried on even though mine didn’t to some degree. I’d often gaze out of my window and think about all the good times I’d had before OCD and would often have internal battles wondering if I’d ever be on the opposite side of the window. I used the umbrella to express the dull misery I’d feel whilst looking out on a summers day.
After meeting others with OCD and speaking to them, the way they describe their battle very often brings me back to this picture and how life is still going on around you, you’re very often stuck under that umbrella being left to only wonder what it’s like outside the window.
